Updating Outdated Pottery
by Susan Pickering Rothamel
As seen on HGTV's "Our Place," Episode OPL-241

Materials List
  • Lumiere & Neopaque Paint
  • Perfect Paper Adhesive
  • Pearl Ex
  • Paintbrushes
  • Krylon Leafing Pen
  • Krylon Webbing Spray
  • WireWorks Wire (Gold, black, copper and aubergine were used here)
  • Embellishments - beads, buttons, curtain rings, etc.
Directions
  1. Pour Lumiere or Neopaque paint inside the pottery. Use a color that will complement what you use on the outside.
  2. Brush Perfect Paper Adhesive on the outside of the pot (figure A).
  3. Follow immediately by applying Pearl Ex (bronze was used on the show) with a brush (figure B). The adhesive seals the pot. Let dry.
  4. If desired, touch up the edges of the pottery with a Krylon Leafing Pen.
  5. Apply Webbing Spray (figure C) with a back-and-forth motion. Do not spray directly onto the pottery.
  6. Wrap several strands of WireWorks around the neck of the pottery and tie it into a bow of sorts (figure D).
  7. Thread decorative items such as beads, earrings or curtain rings onto wire and twist ends.
