Pearl Ex Uses
Uses and ideas from the creative art department of USArtQuest, Inc.

Pearl-Ex pigments are non-toxic powdered pigments that exhibit extreme colorfastness and stability. Ideal for interior, exterior and archival applications, they can be incorporated into virtually any viscous medium.

Using Pearl Ex

IN A POWDER FORM

  • Pearl Ex can be used like any pastel. Apply with a finger, cotton swab, brush, sponge or sponge-tipped applicator.
AS AN ACRYLIC PAINT
  • Mix Pearl Ex with Perfect Paper Adhesive (PPA) or any acrylic medium. Keep in small airtight jars for reuse as an acrylic paint.
  • Allow the Pearl Ex and PPA mixture to dry in a Studio Cup. This can be peeled from the cup, then stamped, embossed, torn, collaged, punched and decoratively cut.
  • Drizzle the mixture onto art projects. Use in conjunction with a sprinkle of Perfect fx - mica flakes and granules, or heat it when embossing powder is applied.
AS A WATERCOLOR PAINT
  • Mix Pearl Ex with Gum Arabic and distilled water. Use it as any other watercolor.
  • Pre-make puddles of Pearl Ex, Gum Arabic and water and pour them into plastic palette wells. Allow to dry and reconstitute as needed.
AS AN OIL PAINT
  • Mix Pearl Ex into any alkyd or oil-based paint to achieve a metallic brilliance and sheen.
AS A LATEX PAINT
  • Mix Pearl Ex into a clear latex or acrylic medium and then apply to any latex painted wall or surface to achieve a glazed glow.
AS AN ENCAUSTIC or WAXING MEDIUM
  • Apply Pearl Ex to the surface of finished waxes, mix into clear or colored rubbing waxes, or mix it in as wax is being heated.
  • Mix a touch of Pearl Ex into melted crayons for a pearlescent encaustic medium.
  AS A CUSTOMIZED EMBOSSING POWDER
  • Using a small lidded jar, simply mix Pearl Ex into a fine embossing powder. Shake well before each application. When possible, heat embossing powders from the bottom.
AS A POLYMER OR AIR-DRY CLAY COLORANT
  • Apply Pearl Ex to a clay surface, or mix into polymer and air-dry clays, such as ClayWorks.
